Two Story Residence | Santa Cruz County | Comprehensive Remodel
Architecture: Duxbury McIntosh Architects
Builder: Tolibas Construction
Photography: Rio Costantini
Situated just steps from the sand, this spectacular oceanfront residence was given a completely new identity through a comprehensive remodel designed to fully embrace its beachfront location.
To maximize the breathtaking coastal views, the main living areas are elevated to the second story, where a fluid, open-concept layout allows the kitchen, dining, and living spaces to share the horizon. Expansive, floor-to-ceiling windows span the front facade, seamlessly connecting the interior to the crashing waves.
The architectural language relies heavily on natural, organic textures. Rich wood slat ceilings run continuously overhead, drawing the eye through the space and integrating subtle, integrated lighting. In the kitchen, a curved, tambour-paneled island anchors the room, paired beautifully with muted sea-foam green cabinetry and a mosaic tile backsplash that mirrors the ocean's shifting tones.
Inside the lounge area, the original masonry fireplace was reimagined with a sleek, modern design. Removing the surrounding wall completely opened the floor plan, letting the living area feel vastly spacious and light-filled.
The home’s private sanctuaries continue this organic dialogue. Bathrooms feature clean wooden cabinetry paired with ocean-tone tiles that subtly complement the beach atmosphere. In the primary suite, the bathroom offers a spa-like retreat, boasting an open shower with terrazzo tile and a large soaking tub with a window framing private greenery.
