One Story Residence | Portola Valley | New Construction with Basement

Architecture: Duxbury McIntosh Architects
Builder: Godby Construction
Interior: Glenda Martin

The quietly angled forms of this distinctly modern private residence take advantage of the panoramic views of the native landscape and oak covered nature preserves to the south and west. The dynamic floor plan steps with the gently sloping natural topography. Massing and sight lines were carefully configured, with large window walls in living room, dining room, office/library, family room, and breakfast nook to maximize connection to the landscape while being protected from direct afternoon sun. The floor plan reaches in to the landscape to create protected terraces to serve as outdoor rooms for barbecuing and dining. The house flows gracefully down the hillside, anchored by the primary suite with private nook and a spa hidden amongst the native grove of blue oaks. The full basement level accommodates recreation, media, fitness, and climate controlled wine cellar.
